slow down. you move too fast! gotta make the moment last...

This lucky mama got her first full weekend away in a looooong time! It was glorious. I went canoeing and camping with three other girls and we had a riot. Gut-busting laughter and fun the whole weekend. We rocked it too. We canoed over 25 miles and roughed it in the wilderness two nights! You get dropped off on Friday and picked up on Sunday with no contact in between. Besides our boisterous laughter, it was a serene scene and all stress melted magically away. We saw (and heard at night!) lots of critters including a snake swimming in the river, bald eagles, a pack of coyotes, coons, turtles, etc.
Used the self timer on the camera to get some group shots.

just us and mother nature.
yup, that's right. I brought my pump on the trip and pumped right there next to the fire pit! I had to pump so badly the first morning that I am pretty sure I woke up the whole camp at 7:30am because that pump is l.o.u.d!! I am going to smash it with a sledgehammer when I am done breastfeeding. I have a love/hate relationship with it.
My view from the back of the canoe. All our gear in the middle.
lots of campfire chats
best s'mores ever! reeces peanut butter cups! You MUST try it!
Last week Cy & I went to the Children's Museum and he played in the Curious George exhibit which just so happens to be his most favorite character in the whole wide world.
Well Arlo can reach into the recycling now and he LOVES to suck dada's empty beer bottles at 7am when mama isn't looking. You better believe those are getting moved!!

I asked Cy to play with Arlo while I switched laundry loads. He was actually quite clever in entertaining him -- he crawled into he hamper & played peek-a-boo. Between that & Jackson, I got the laundry switched no problem.

Well, we are off to savor our final weeks of summer vacation... We are heading to Wisconsin soon. Patrick will be back & forth (so if you are a robber, he WILL be home , don't bother trying!) We are going to spend time at the lake with cousins Finn and Neve, whom we will meet for the first time! And then Cy is going to be a ring bearer in cousin Lauren's wedding! Lots of fun stuff coming up!! Hope you are enjoying the final days of summer my friend!

family camp

Hi! Back in January or so I had to reserve Cy spots in summer camps at the nature centers. While I was doing that, I stumbled upon a cabin to reserve for a good price at a great park on Lake Independence.
Well this weekend we stayed there & we were pleasantly surprised! I hadn't realized that I had actually signed us up for "family camp." It was at the park we had camped at before, but at a whole different location. It was called the "Baker-near Wildnerness Settlement Area." and it consisted of about 10 rustic cabins (1 room, bunk beds, a wood stove and a table. no bathrooms, no electricity, no kitchen, etc) and a beautiful "lodge" in the center.
All sorts of great families with kids were staying in the other cabins and the naturalists had all sorts of family activities planned that you could opt-in... archery, rock-climbing, canoeing. critter shows, lectures on worms, etc.

However there were some bad parts to camp... both Patrick and I woke up sick in the middle of the first night there and the rest of the weekend was a physical struggle. We both felt a bit better when we were up and about but in reality it was pretty tough. We took a lot of turns sleeping... and went to bed early. But it was good all-around. We went on a bike ride. We played at another playground. We had all the camp kids making ice-cream on the last night.
We are staying out at this family camp again in Sept for fall family camp & I can't wait!

"Scooter Cy" was never without his scooter all weekend. In jammies.

 and in his rainsuit.
Arlo enjoying breakfast in the woods. We literally carted his highchair all the way out to this cabin.

non professional but professional looking pics

Hi! I love our non-professional professional photographer! She takes the cutest pics! And when she is done, she just gives them to us on a disk. We have all the rights so we don't have to buy prints like you do with expensive professional photographers. I decided it was time to get a good family pic done. I get a little emotional thinking about it but: Jackson is getting old (11.5 yrs.) Arlo just turned one. Patrick's looking hot thanks to his new running habit... So we met up with Little Sparrow Photography for a quick session on Lake Calhoun (appropriate for Arlo Calhoun's first bday!) and here are some of my favs. You can't even tell that it's raining and Arlo had poop in his pants for the ENTIRE photo shoot, right?!

I love this sweet picture and just today gave Arlo his first hair trim after seeing this pic!

Happy first birthday Arlo!!

I added another blog entry below if you feel like reading a blow by blow account of our entire last week (yawn.)
