A "working weekend"

Sooo not fun but once and a while we just have to have a "working weekend" where we work hard to bust everything off of our to-do list. That's what we did this past weekend. And man did we work hard! Multching, weeding, planting, vacuuming, photo projects and more!

We had the sweetest little 14 yr old girl named Amy come over to help with the boys for 3 hours on Friday and 3 hours on Sunday. It was fate the way we met her. Since sometime this winter I have been going once a week, early Friday mornings, to a heated yoga class when it works with Patrick's work schedule. Amy's mom is the teacher. Once we found out that we were practically neighbors, she told me that she is also a preschool teacher and has three young daughters who love to babysit! Bliss! So her daughter Amy came over for the first time on Friday and she played with the boys while Patrick & I worked hard. Sometimes Amy just played with one at a time and sometimes she played with both. No matter what she was doing she sure earned her keep! I could hear her playing with them -- and she is SO good with the little ones! So much patience. So fun! It was touching to watch Arlo get so much one-on-one attention. He didn't have any of the "stranger-danger" behavior that occasionally pops up either! He was ear to ear grins!

Here is a series of pics from last week's "Cy & Mama" outing to the Minnesota Science Museum. It was stormy that day so we did an inside activity - the museum! It is a bit of a hike from our house but Cy has been talking about returning non-stop since last week so I have a feeling we might be members soon.

 ewww!!

I took this pic at a really great park last week where we had a playdate with Cy's friend Maria. The park is called Chutes & Ladders and if you live in Mpls, you should check it out! Anyways, I think Cy looks like such a big boy in this pic.
Yesterday we had about 15 people (including babies) over to our house for a playdate. All our hard work on the yard and house paid off!
Cy has been playing with these kids since he was a few months old. We  met in a baby music class!
 backyard pool & sprinkler fun
Let's play "can you find the baby!?" Arlo slept almost an hour in the (clean & now organized) garage this morning. Cy, Arlo & I went for a run very early & Arlo fell asleep so we quietly left him in the garage and stalked him just on the other side of the door while he slept peacefully. It was the perfect temp for a nap (sorta) outside.
Also this morning: Cy dressed for "Nature camp." which he has three days this week.

His camp is at this beautiful nature center and it is the real deal. A dream way to spend some summer mornings if you are a 4 year old boy who loves dirt and all creatures who reside in dirt!

We'll be seeing you back here in July with lots of pics I am sure!! Time for a little holiday! :)

camping and picnic pics

Hi!
We did it! We camped for 2 nights in 90+ degree weather and it went well and we had a blast! Yipppee!!

Marshmallows and a fire the first night we got there.
Arlo went to sleep for his morning nap right on schedule!
We spent the day at the park's beach. We camped at Willow River State Park. It has a waterfall, trails, playgrounds and is about 45 minnutes from our house in Wisconsin. Even though it was over 90 degrees there was a fantastic breeze and in the shade it was absolutely perfect. We didn't even bother trying to go to our tent during the day with the knowledge it would be an oven. So we just spent the day with a picnic lunch at the beach.
When the kids' afternoon naptime came around we told them we had to go for a "drive" in the cool air conditioned car. Worked like a charm. All 4 of us slept for an hour in the car! :)
After nap we went back to the beach and made home-made strawberry, cookies and cream ice cream by hand. It turned out wonderfully. It was delicious and a perfect cold treat on a warm day.
That night for dinner we had a visitor. Can you see her in the woods? Also, since we were car camping we brought Arlo's full sized high chair and it worked great. Kept him strapped in when we were setting up or had a fire going so we didn't worry about him getting in to trouble. He loves watermelon!

Sunset pajama stroll with the lil one asleep and the big one almost out.
Our queen mattress with Cy's cot at the foot of our bed.
The Arlo side of the tent. Plenty of room!
After we got home on Sunday we napped, showered and went to a picnic with old friends. Some of these guys have been Patrick's friends since grade school. Now we have a whole new generation! From left to right:

All the kids & their parents with two moms missing.

This week Cy has camp Monday - Thursday from 9-1. I seriously miss him already. It is so quiet here without him! I don't know what Arlo & I are going to do all week! I know I'll be running every day (a 20 pound jog stroller is sooo much easier than a 60 pound one!)
On Weds Nana is coming to care for Arlo like she usually does which means I am going to have a morning off!!! I seriously don't know when the last time that's happened and I am giddy thinking about all the different things I can do! I think I am going to try to run and go to a sweaty yoga class and maybe a quick swim! Bliss!!

oh boy oh boy oh boy

I am so excited! We've had so much fun stuff going on lately and it is nowhere near ending! I'm busy tonight packing for tomorrow's adventure: camping!!!

Cy and his bestie Campbell had a "show" at Little Gym last week because it is the end of their year-long class
 Still a serious monkey
Our poor floors and chairs are always stickey these days.
This massive pile is what we needed to stay in a hotel room with 2 kids for ONE night! (I can only imagine what the camping-pile is going to look like tomorrow!)
Two nights before the run. Getting the back of my running jersey ready with my homemade grandpa-cy tribute. My mom helped me laminate it up at the cabin last week. It was great running as a tribute to Grandpa Cy and I can tell you that I definitely thought of him a lot and asked him for a little push during the hardest parts of my run when I hit some walls. I think he gave me a lot of strength that day! Thanks Grandpa! We miss you dearly & (as you know) you are spoken about quite often in our home!
Cy was so stoked. The hotel that was the marathon base had a waterpark! The hotel had a great (seriously amazing) Minneapolis Marathon deal on rooms so we decided to reserve a room & stay there the night before the run. It included passes to the waterpark too. Great idea for so many reasons: The whole place was buzzing with runners and energy and it was so fun to be a part of that. The marathon start was literally right out our window so for the first time in a long time I didnt have to wait in a gigantic line for a porta potty before my run! With a 7:30am start time, staying close meant I had plenty of time to feed Arlo before I left. And as a added bonus it meant that Cy got to go back into the waterpark before we went home after the marathon (and mama got to soak her tired legs!)

The night before we walked around downtown. The hotel was right next to the mighty Mississippi and the views were ah-maze-ing!

And here I am running! The only shot I have of me actually running & I look really weird. I'm a few people over to the right from the center. Red skirt. Pink shirt. I dressed this way so my family could find me in bright colors! It worked great!
Afterwards. So tired and so happy. A great great birthday!!
My cheering crew all wore red/orange so I could find them. Thank you for the cheers boys. It was so great to have you three there - just for me!

And then we switch gears and I show you my muddy muddy children. Look at Arlo's feet.

dirtball brothers
Happy little dirtballs
No!! don't eat it!!
Oh yes, and since the half marathon -- cy has been inspired to RUN! He is so funny! He puts on a full running outfit and shoes and we go to the cemetary and he does laps. It is awesome! I scream and cheer him on the whole way. The neighbors must think I am a whack job.
Cy is really rocking at swimming lately. It's going to be a fun summer! Today his teacher dropped a ring to the bottom (3 feet) and he actually swam underwater to get it!
